What's with this Annual License Renewal Thing?
Starting with Fencing Time v4.0, licenses for the Standard version are sold on an annual basis. This differs from prior versions, where licenses were good "forever". (Note that all licenses included in the Server Multi-Pack are good forever.)
When Fencing Time v1.0 was released in 2002, it was a fairly simple program and licenses were sold for $49. When Fencing Time v2.0 was released in 2006, the price remained $49. With the release of v3.0 in 2010, the license price was raised to $99. This was to reflect the incrasing power and complexity of the program.
Fencing Time v4.0 was a huge step forward, especially with the introduction of the Fencing Time Server version. The program is now incredibly complex internally and the amount of work required to develop it was significant. Moving to the new annual license will help us cover some of the ongoing development costs and fund the continuing improvement of the program. In 2024, license prices were increased for the first time in over a decade.
After the initial purchase, license renewals are $69 per year, or $119 for a two-year renewal. We feel this price is fair, especially considering how many tournaments most clubs run with Fencing Time over the season.
